Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is known for its beautiful beaches and national park, but few people know about the hidden gem that is Playitas Beach. This small, secluded beach is located just a short hike away from the more popular beaches in the area, but it’s stunning natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it well worth the effort to get there.
Playitas Beach is surrounded by rocks and cliffs, which provide a stunning backdrop for swimming and sunbathing. The clear, blue waters are perfect for snorkeling, allowing visitors to see an array of marine life such as colorful fish and sea turtles. The beach is also a great spot to watch the sunset, with the sky lighting up in vibrant hues of orange, pink, and red.
Getting to Playitas Beach requires a bit of effort, as it is only accessible by a hiking trail. The trailhead is located just past the entrance to the Manuel Antonio National Park, and visitors can expect a moderate hike that takes approximately 20–30 minutes. The trail is well-marked and takes you through lush greenery and past beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.
As Playitas Beach is a secluded spot, there are a few things to keep in mind when visiting. Make sure to bring all the supplies you need, including water, snacks, and sunscreen. There are no facilities or vendors at the beach, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Visitors should also be aware of the currents and surf conditions, as there are no lifeguards on duty.
